“This is a farm south of Mt. Horeb, WI, on the outskirts of a little town called Mt. Vernon. I’d often driven by this farm as I searched for subject matter, and this winter afternoon provided the dramatic light I had been looking for. When I painted this, I had been working on oil paintings for about two years. This was my first time attempting such a large and detailed oil painting. I especially remember how hard it was to paint all the tree branches with oil paint. Since paint is much thicker than watercolor, painting such fine lines is more difficult and time-consuming. You may have noticed that I haven’t done an oil painting with a million tree branches ever since.” -Steven Kozar
