“While driving through central Illinois, I got off the interstate and took the side roads when dramatic storms rolled into the area. This scene has the kind of quiet dignity I love to portray. The weathered Harris Station building was torn down shortly after I painted this, but the large concrete grain elevators are still there. I like the fact that I’m helping to preserve, in a small way, the history of a place. But I think the most important part of this painting is the way it feels, not simply the recording of geographic and architectural data.” -Steven Kozar
