“Returning from an art show, I took a wrong turn and got slightly lost, but it led me to this place, with its gloriously slanted, late afternoon sunlight. I couldn’t even remember where this was after I returned home. I made this painting and couldn’t tell people exactly where it was. A few years later, I found myself driving down this same road and realized that I was on the ‘lost road.’ But the barn depicted on the left side of the painting (which was falling apart when I photographed it) was now gone.
