“A few years before I painted this, I took photos of a foggy sunrise in summer from this exact spot just down the road from my house, but I didn’t use them. Like a lot of my photo references, the idea was pondered and set aside. A year or two later, I went to the same spot again on another foggy morning; this time in spring. I liked it much more; the semi-transparent trees enhanced the feeling of space and distance, and the sky was more dramatic too. I knew I had the makings of a very good painting right away, but now I just had to paint it… But how would I paint that fog? I decided to use oil paint because of its very blendable nature. This was painted in a slightly looser style on a larger scale than most of my work (the original painting was 20“ x 42“) because it just seemed to make sense for this atmospheric scene. This painting should be a reminder that beauty is all around us, right where we live, if we stop to notice it. Enjoy!” -Steven Kozar
