“This is a very large oil painting that I was commissioned to paint for my church, Risen Savior Lutheran Church. I painted it on a wooden panel 36″ x 72.” Unlike every other painting I’ve done over the past thirty-some years, this is an imaginary scene depicting the resurrection of Christ. I painted the whole thing freehand, without using a preliminary drawing. I used various photographic references to guide me and painted in a more painterly style. At the far left side, three empty crosses represent Christ’s atoning death on the cross to pay for the sins of mankind. And of course, the empty tomb depicts Christ’s victory over death and our hope that He was, indeed, God in human flesh. Enjoy!” -Steven Kozar
